Young: Manchester United Will Find ‘Another Gear’ Against Liverpool

Ashley Young has warned Liverpool that Manchester United have “another gear” ahead of their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

united warmed up with a 2-0 win  against chelsea in  the FA cup on monday to make it 11 wins from 13 games under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and after a hugely impressive performance at Stamford Bridge, Young said they are ready to step it up against Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers.

“I think we had another gear to go,” Young said. “It was very good to get the win away [at Chelsea] and the way we did it.

“It gives us all massive belief, obviously you will get confidence from winning games and that’s exactly what we have done.

“We beat Spurs away, and Arsenal away and now Chelsea away.

“Liverpool is at the weekend and we will build up to that this week and concentrate on that when it comes about.”

Solskjaer’s success with a United team that was struggling under Jose Mourinho has made the 45-year-old the front-runner to get the job permanently.

He has had to do it the hard way after back-to-back FA Cup draws against Arsenal and Chelsea and Young was surprised they managed to avoid another top-six rival in the quarterfinal draw.

“I was surprised we didn’t get City,” Young said.

“That’s what we were looking for but you have to beat every team in the competition and that’s what we’ll do go down there [to Wolves] to beat them and get through to the semifinal.”

United have doubts over the fitness of Anthony Martial  and Jesse Lingard ahead of the meeting with Liverpool after both missed the win over Chelsea with muscle injuries.

The pair have been key to Solskjaer’s attacking philosophy and Martial’s international manager, Didier Deschamps, said supporters are seeing the best of the 23-year-old, who has signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, because he is becoming more “mature.”

“He often makes the difference,” Deschamps said. “He has had some injury problems. He’s a player that we had with us at the Euros [in 2016], he wasn’t with us at the World Cup but he’s one of the players that we follow regularly.

“He’s a young player who’s gaining in maturity because he started very early. There are always difficult moments in a career but in terms of potential, he has everything needed for the highest level.”
