DRD Scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africans (Aspiring Africans who want to study in Germany)
The scholarships are aimed at nationals of Sub-Saharan African countries. DRD scholarship offers a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships per year to applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries. It is offered to students with an excellent academic record, to pursue development-related Master’s and PhD studies.
The scholarships are available for full-time students of;
- MA in Development Studies
- Master in Public Administration
- The different PhD options at the center (PhD UWC)
The value of the scholarship includes monthly allowances of 650 euros. It includes travel allowances for Master candidates, and 900 Euro plus travel allowances for PhD candidates. Also, the tuition and registration fees are paid by the Scholarship Programme.
Its eligibility is as follows;
- All applicants need to be from Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Applicants should have an excellent academic record. It should be at least 70% average for your last degree.
- The applicant’s study must have been completed at an internationally recognized university.
- The previous degree of the applicant should be in an academic discipline that is related to Development Studies.
- Students must provide proof of proficiency in English, both written and spoken. This can be a TOEFL test or a similar standard test, it also can be a letter from an academic institution.
- Applicants from South Africa are to have an honors degree to be admitted to a Master’s degree course. While other students need the equivalent of a 4-year undergraduate degree.
- Work and/or voluntary experience in your field of interest would be a great recommendation for students.
- There is no formal age restriction for application. But applicants are to apply within three years of completing their previous degree. But if they have a good reason for having been academically inactive for a period, they can apply.
- South African students are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
- Applicants should be able to study full-time at the UWC for the required period.
Africa London Nagasaki (ALN) Fund (Africans who want to study in selected Countries)
This graduate scholarship is for African scientists to gain funding for a master’s degree in an area related to disease control in Africa.
The winners of the scholarship can choose to study at London’s Institute of Tropical Medicine. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, or Nagasaki University in Japan.
ALN Fund, which stands for Africa London Nagasaki. Is a scholarship fund set up to help African scientists undertake a Master’s degree in a subject relevant to the control of contagious diseases in Africa?
Successful applicants will be given a maximum of US$50,000 each to cover tuition fees, travel, and living expenses. Award will be made only on the condition that the candidate meets the criteria set for entry on the course for which they have applied.
The Beit Trust Scholarships (Africans who want to study in Selected Countries)
The Beit Trust scholarships are international master’s degree and PhD scholarships for African students from Malawi, and Zambia.
Or Zimbabwe to study in the UK, Ireland, or South Africa at a notable university. To be eligible for the Beit Trust scholarship the university need to have accepted your application.
The Scholarships are for Postgraduate degrees only. Beit Trust does not provide scholarships for undergraduate work and its postgraduate focus is on Master’s Degrees. It does not consider applicants for MBAs.
Its eligibility requirements include the following;
- Its Act of Parliament offers support to only students who are citizens of Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi, who hold permanent residence, live there, and/or intend to return to their country after their studies.
- Applicants (medical and veterinary doctors are exempted) must be under 30 years of age. Experience of work after completion of a first degree is strongly advisable as it will count towards the award of a scholarship.
- Doctors and Vets must be under 35 years of age. And they should have completed 18 months of internship, and one year, preferably rural, posting in Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi.
- The Trust does not allow applications from those who have already begun a course.
- Beit Trust will only accept applicants with First Class/Distinction or Upper Second-Class degrees (or equivalent) at the undergraduate level.
